Kathleen Mansfield Murry (1888-1923) was born on this day (14th of October) in 1888.
She was born in New Zealand and moved to England at the age of nineteen.
She was a short story writer and poet.
Mansfield made friends with D. H. Lawrence and Virginia Woolf. Although her literary career was very short (as she sadly died at thirty-four owing to tuberculosis), she is seen as one of the best short story writers of all time.
Some of her best-known works were The Garden Party, A Dill Pickle, Mr and Mrs Dove, and The Fly.
Katherine Mansfield lived in a house in Hampstead. There is a blue plaque on this building, as this is the house where Murry lived with her husband, John Middleton Murry. 🔵
